Solving The Problem - 8A
The Opportunity: More and more Americans are becoming overweight and aren't doing anything to improve their health. From my research, it comes down to making exercise your top priority in order to see results.
The Solution: People need to have accountability for setting their exercise goals and following through with them. Discipline is hard to build-up, but if there was a gym that could help you achieve your fitness goal by incentivizing and rewarding their members, then I firmly believe more people would find the motivation and desire to workout.
The Service: Some gyms charge you a penalty of $25 if you don't show up to your scheduled fitness class, which I think is a great start. But I'd like to take it a step further. I think gyms should reward their members and make them feel appreciated and motivated. For example, if you check in a certain amount of times per month you can win a prize. Prizes would need to be worth it though. Perhaps 3-month free memberships, money, tickets to sporting events or concerts, exclusive experiences, or reduction of monthly dues based on your consistency and progress. Also, the gym should provide instructions on what exercises to do in each station, with mini instructional videos. I think this would also motivate people to not feel lost and want to exercise.

Yep its me again,
ReplyDeleteI love that you are looking to positively reinforce people to go to the gym. That coupled with negativity reinforcement of the fees for not going to their workouts should provide a physical manifestation of motivation for the gym members to attend. Also, I think that you could add an app function for the members of the gym that allows them to see their progress from anywhere and easily stay connected to the gym.
Hey Fiorella,
ReplyDeleteI think a gym focused on the user's goals and implementing them would be extremely successful. Many people who want to get healthier don't know how to do it, or aren't committed enough to get it done. If you have a motivator and a gym that knows what they're doing, though, you could definitely target an audience that previously aren't paid attention to. Good job.
Hi Fiorella,
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely a great opportunity. I like that you pointed out that people need to have accountability. Having incentives or rewards would keep people interested in their fitness goals. The rewards that you mentioned are definitely some that I would be interested in from a gym. I love the idea of having instructions for machines at the gym. I often find myself straying away from certain areas of the gym because I don't want to feel embarrassed when I am unsure of how to correctly use a machine. Great ideas!
Hi Fiorella,
ReplyDeleteI loved your idea! Incentives are honestly the key to success. Humans will definitely be more motivated to work out more if they are told that they will win prizes or something along those lines. Great work!
